First Days On the Job

It's always a little weird when you're starting out, isn't it?

There are always those little first day jitters, those moments when you think, "Oh crap, I just really messed that up and now everybody's looking at me like the newbie, aren't they? AREN'T THEY?! That's it I'm quitting."

It's always a slightly painful realization that you just have to wait for things to come, to learn, to get used to how it is here at the new job.

I consider yesterday as being my first day on the job at Wives, Inc. There was no name tag, no welcome packet, no instructions on what I can and cannot wear...but it definitely had all the same first day feelings.

If you're wondering about why yesterday was my first day as a wife instead of last Sunday, the day I got married, allow me to enlighten: Honeymoons don't count.

Okay, now that that has been thoroughly explained, I feel that I can continue.

I spent a good deal of yesterday thinking, "Well what exactly do I do?" Dan left for work just before seven, and after I sent him off I had a moment of you-just-kissed-your-husband-goodbye-at-the-door wonder. This is my new life. I have a husband. I made him lunch.

Oh my word. On my first day on the job as wife, I literally made my husband a sandwich.

....

And right now I'm wearing an apron. A cute apron. Green, with white polka dots.
Seriously.

A very very very dear friend just wrote me a letter, with instructions not to open it until I've felt that "'sigh...everything's getting back' feeling. (Not back to normal, but at least progressing towards the new normal.)"

The new normal.

The new normal.

I'm really quite happy, with my sandwich making and my apron.

The new normal...

Give it a few days...I just might be able to open that letter soon enough.

  1. This made me smile. You were a beautiful bride and still are a beautiful wife (who makes awesome sandwiches, that's a plus) :)

  3. Once my selfish me-moment was over, I realized I didn't tell you how much I love this blog post. And Jessica Higginbotham (that's beginning to flow a little better for me :P), I love your voice. And I don't mean your singing/talking voice, although I do and you know it. But I love your voice as a writer.
